The bright lights of Blackpool

on .

Staff and residents from Springhill Care Home enjoyed a trip to Blackpool recently.

The group, accompanied by colleagues from specialist wellbeing group Oomph! Wellness, first stopped off at the famous Seniors chip shop in Thornton-Cleveleys for a bite to eat and a nice cup of tea.

Afterwards they made their way to Blackpool promenade to see the illuminations, a trip which brought back many happy memories for residents who reminisced about how the town has changed over the years.

Everyone had a lovely time and are looking forward to the next trip.

Sophie adds to training drive at care home

on .

Springhill Care Home is demonstrating its commitment to training of its staff with the appointment of an experienced professional to lead staff training.

With a strong background in social care, including a BSc in Medical Sciences from the University of Leeds and roles in domiciliary care, Sophie joins the team as learning and development coordinator.

She has worked as an assessor in fields including medical administration, health and social care, business administration and the assistant practitioner diploma.

Sophie, who lives in Burnley, previously worked as coordinator at Gloucester private training provider Summerhouse, and has recently completed her first module of an MSc in Mental Health Sciences with the Open University.

In her new role she will work closely with the Springhill Care Group’s head of learning and development, Mike Lakins.

She said: “I believe training is key to any workforce and in order to deliver high-class training, you must constantly develop yourself.

“I’m very excited to work with all the staff at Springhill at all levels to source and deliver the most relevant training for them, ensuring they reach their potential and deliver the highest standards of care for our residents.”

Charity coffee event enjoyed by all

on .

Springhill Care Home’s coffee afternoon in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support was a resounding success.

We love a chance to gather together for a social event, and the annual coffee mornings which raise much-needed funds for the good cause was a great event to be involved with.

Our coffee afternoon raised more than £100 and saw some tasty treats on offer along with plenty of cups of tea and coffee.

Thanks to all those who supported us.

A trip to Portland Basin Museum

on .

Last week residents took a trip to Ashton-under-lyne, Tameside, to visit the Portland Basin Museum with Oomph! Wellness Out and About service.

Walking through a bygone town in Tameside, residents were transported back to the 1920s where the sights and sounds of the area were brought to life.

As everyone walked through each exhibition, they agreed it was fascinating and they all enjoyed taking a look in a 1920's kitchen and learning about the local area’s industrial heritage.

After learning about the history of Tameside on the trip, it lead to many discussions on the way home, comparing the 1920s to the current today.

The Oomph! Wellness trips are a highlight in the Springhill events calendar and we can’t wait to find out where the next trip will take us.

Springhill visits the ‘Wild West’

on .

Last week residents and staff enjoyed a hoedown as Springhill was transformed into the Wild West.

Everyone enjoyed a delicious buffet table filled with a selection of American cuisine including onion rings, hot dogs with mustard and burgers.

A photobooth was set up in the lounge area where everyone enjoyed pulling funny faces and using the props available. If anyone was caught ‘eyeing up’ an extra hot dog or found doing anything out of order, they were sent straight to the Springhill ‘county jail.’

A great day was had by all and they’ve already come up with ideas for the next themed day!
